Introduction to Flat and Moving Water Kayaking (2 Day Class)

This class is designed for the beginner. We will meet at the Philadelphia Canoe Club, 9:00 a.m. on August 17.

Sat, August 17: Intro to Recreational Kayaking (ACA Level 1)  (Flat water kayaking basics, safety, etc.) The course will cover equipment, skill building and safety on flat and gentle moving water

Sun, August 18: Essentials of River Kayaking (ACA Level 2). Covers strokes and techniques needed for maneuvering and controlling  your boat in moving water such as parts of the Schuylkill and Delaware rivers and the NJ Pine Barrens, as well as more advanced rescue techniques,...

The first day will consist of a short classroom session and an introduction to flat water paddling. The second day you will be introduced to moving water river skills. You can register for one or two days but you must attend the first day in order to attend the second date.

CLASS LOCATION: Philadelphia Canoe Club, 4900 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19128 (directions below)

HOW TO DRESS: Be prepared to be wet all day. Clothing suggestion: Quick Drying Shorts and Shirt, Swimsuit, windbreaker or rainjacket, closed water shoes or sneakers (no sandals or barefeet). 

THINGS TO BRING: Lunch. We will eat at the clubhouse. Our kitchen has a refrigerator, stove and microwave. Change of clothes, towel, noseplugs (may make you more comfortable), strap to secure glasses, sunblock, snacks and drinking water in unbreakable bottle. You may use the shower at the conclusion of the day.
