
This class will be held on a river in the pine barrens. You must have completed the Introduction to Recreational Kayaking before registering for this class. You must know strokes and basic boat control and have done a wet exit (if you have not done a wet exit you can do one before class, talk to instructor). This course will cover boat control in moving water on twisty streams, safety, maneuvers and water reading.
Class will be begin at the Philadelphia Canoe Club, 4900 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, PA on the Schuylkill River, rain or shine. After a short classroom session we travel to a lake in the NJ Pine Barrens. Kayaks and equipment will be transported by instructors. You must provide transportation for yourself.
CLASS TIME: 8:30 - 4:00
CLASS LOCATION: Class will begin at Philadelphia Canoe Club, 4900 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19128 (directions below). Instruction will be on a Pine Barrens River.
HOW TO DRESS: Be prepared to be wet all day. Clothing suggestion: Quick Drying Shorts and Shirt, Hat with a visor, Swimsuit, windbreaker or rainjacket, closed water shoes or sneakers (no sandals or barefoot).
THINGS TO BRING: Lunch. We will eat on the river. Change of clothes for end of day, towel, noseplugs (may make you more comfortable), strap to secure glasses, sunblock, bug repellent, zip lock bag for trash, snacks and drinking water in unbreakable bottle. Dry bag for dry clothes on the river.
