Philadelphia Canoe Club needs your help.

Every penny will be used to make vital repairs to our clubhouse, caretaker's apartment, docks, boat sheds, and river front access.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP: Over the past 2 years, The Philadelphia Canoe Club (P.C.C.) has experienced crucial shortfalls to its operation's revenue, due to circumstances outside of our control. Attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic we were unable to offer summer training or winter pool sessions in 2020.

Serving the community as both a social and teaching club, we approached 2021 with equal parts of skepticism and optimism, due to the ongoing complications of the pandemic. At the start of our busy training season, the Club forged through tough decisions and persevered through many unknowns. Good things appeared to be on the horizon through most the 2021 summer.

Then on September 2nd of 2021 that all was washed away. The worst flooding in our history. We reached the highest water mark in our history. 2' 8" over the highest water mark previously set in 1999 by Hurricane Floyd. We incurred significant property damage to the clubhouse, caretaker's apartment, boat sheds, and docks. Even in a late night effort to move appliances, furniture, and every boat in our fleet to the highest ground possible, it was still not enough to keep the water from reaching every square inch of the Philadelphia Canoe Club grounds. For the first time in history our entire first floor was underwater.

Since September, we have exhausted our networks and contacts to the Local, State, and Federal Governments, including FEMA, PEMA, and The City of Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation. We have even reached out to the Small Business Association and we simply do not qualify for any disaster relief or other funding.

And is this why our last effort has now turned to you...

Donations are needed for these vital projects:

  • Dock and boat launch replacement
  • Replace damaged windows
  • Repairs to plumbing and electrical systems
  • Repairs to storage sheds
  • Wissahickon and Schuylkill River bank restoration
  • Extensive flood damage to caretaker apartment
  • Replace buckled flooring and structural beams
  • and, many more safety and operational repairs to our old clubhouse

Every donation, big or small, is truly appreciated and will help keep The Philadelphia Canoe Club operating for years to come. Please donate through the website form below and help spread the word far and wide!!

The Philadelphia Canoe Club has over 100 years of experience creating moments of enjoyment that turn into lifetimes of friendships. With your help we can continue that tradition, and carry on making Philadelphia a better place for all of us!!

ABOUT THE CLUB:  We are a nonprofit organization, founded in 1905, with a long and rich history of supporting and growing the paddlesports community in the Philadelphia region.

The Philadelphia Canoe Club is located on a unique and historic property at the confluence of the Wissahickon Creek and Schuylkill River. The Club provides lessons in both Flatwater and Whitewater in kayaking and canoeing, sea kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding. Additionally, the club offers important training courses in river safety and swift-water rescue. Each year more than 500 people are introduced to paddling through PCC training courses. The club prides itself on welcoming everyone regardless of age, gender, or ability.

UPDATE:  PROGRESS IS BEING MADE !!

Through the hard work and long hours invested we have been repairing, replacing and restoring our Clubhouse piece by piece.

The primary focus was put towards our damaged utilities, and getting our Caretaker (Grace) back into the apartment before the cold Winter days set in.

Our hot water heater, gas furnace and washer/dryer were moved and re-piped to the second floor.

In the caretaker's Kitchen the floor was repaired due to buckling.

Then the decision was made to remove the wainscoting on the walls to prevent future mold problems. This was followed with an ongoing effort (nearing completion) to resurface the stone foundation with a plaster concrete that will better endure all future floods.

Our electrical box was cleaned, and many unused wires were removed.

Spring is quickly approaching, and we will soon be turning our efforts, and donations towards work on the river banks and building foundation in the weeks and months ahead.

Please know even with the progress that has been made we STILL need your support to continue these repairs!!

All of this work has been done with the volunteer efforts of our members and friends.

Philadelphia Canoe Club would personally like to thank Rob Evans, Micheal Mongrandi, Keith Klien, Judy and Manny Ayala, Rich Widmann, Grace Chatman Royce, Henry Bartechko, Thuong Nguyen, Michael Richardson, Griffen Affel, Todd Zielinski, Ken Conly and so many more!!

Without our passionate volunteers we truly would be in much worse condition!!
