Scudders Bridge

We are trapped.... no way to get out of Jersey with out being extorted... err, umm... required to pay a toll....

The DRJTBC's Commissioners voted unanimously at their December 2009 meeting to establish tolling at the replacement Scudder Fall Bridge. Tolls will be implemented on or adjacent to the bridge, and will be collected in the southbound direction using an all-electronic cashless tolling system. The Commission felt that it was obliged to issue its tolling decision after assessing its overall capital program needs, and - most notably - the unlikelihood of securing sufficient project funding assistance from the federal and state governments. The Commission's sole source of revenue is the tolls that it collects at its toll bridges.
In 2010 the DRJTBC commissioned a study to understand the potential impacts of traffic diversions on the local roadways and adjacent river crossings once tolls are implemented. The study concluded that the traffic diversions resulting from the tolling of the new Scudder Falls Bridge will cause minimal impacts to local roadways and bridges.

Help with banquet

Well it's time to think about helping with banquet. If you helped last year your help is needed again. On Friday 1/27 I'll be shopping at the resturant depot, next door to the clubhouse. Shopping 12:30 pm til 3:00. Then I'll be at the club by 3:30to unload and start prep. If you can show up anytime Friday please call me. Saturday I'll be at the club by 10:00 am. If you can show up on Saturday call me let me know what times you can be there. If you didn't help last year call me your help is needed. Thanks Ron Samlin - (609)703-0300

This is great news! My remarks were meant to be humorous and were the result of this boater's impatience and frustration with the whole process. The Guv was just a convenient big mark.  I expected and got a reasoned response, thanks. Funny though how work started just a week after people started to vent. I know it is just a coincidence. The dead of winter is a great time to start a construction project. If the mild weather persists hopefully the bridge will be done by spring and we'll have our favorite play spot back. Time will tell.

Work has started on Bridge

Drove past today and work was starting on the bridge. Couldn't ask the workers how long it might take because River Road was closed due to sewer line work.  As to the speculation regarding Christie's nefarious plans, come on guys, the long delay resulted from a NJDOT design (or lack thereof) screwup, which result in the need for the bridge to be redesign, repermitted (long process!), and materials re-procured.  By the time that all happened, Irene and Lee came along and the monies needed to be spent on emergency road repairs.  Anyway, if the work duration is supposed to be about what it was predicted the first time around, it should be done in 4 to 8 weeks.

Agreed

Agreed.  I don't think Christie (I really hate him, and that's not a word I throw around lightly) gives a damn about anything other than his waistline and the fat cats in the state.  why should he care about outdoor recreation?  Probably his idea of outdoor recreation is walking from his mansion to the car.  And maybe before he was governor to get his mail.  I agree with Marion.  If something isn't done soon, we should organize.  Even though the effort will probably be futile.

Spillway broken

The canal supply's water to nnj and the spillway broke near the prison. When that's done the bridge will get repaired. At least the trash that normally ruins the park wasn't there this summer I hope they never fix it.

Personally I think tearing the bridge down and not rebuilding it is part of Gov. Christie's austerity plan for NJ - saving money by not spending it on frivolous pubic recreation projects, better spent subsidizing the ailing AC casinos. Absolutely no excuse for the long delay. Fishermen, hikers, runners, boaters, bikers, boogie-boarders, picnickers, nature lovers, tubers of the world unite! We want our bridge and Scuddersback. Come spring if no progress is evident let's show solidarity and Occupy something, letters, phone calls, petitions, etc. Throw the bums out!
