Hello,

I am new to the forums, though I have been to the canoe club before.

Anyway, I am planning a kayak trip on the Brandywine River's West Branch or on the main part past where both branches merge with some friends. I would like to know what the put-ins and take-outs are like. I was wondering if there was anywhere to part at the put-in at Mortonville, at the park where the two branches merge, or where the primary take-out in Delaware is. Please let me know.

Thanks,

Alex

Thanks!

Kevin,

Thanks for the info! I will definitely call ahead to ensure that the outfitters will accommodate me.

Alex- There is a put-in

Alex-

There is a put-in parking spot just across from Brandywine Outfitters.  I'd suggest a courtesy call to them to ask permission.  They've been accomodating in the past.

Here is a link to a map that you can Zoom in and out.  Also, if you click on the blue pin, you can customize your own directions:

If the link doesn't work, just type the lat/long into Google Maps:

Confluence takeout

The takeout at the confluence of the East and West brnaches has limited parking (pull-off area) just a smidge upstream at Shaws Bridge (2 or 3 cars); look for the obvious clearing upstream right and carry up the short staircase to the parking pull-off.  Or, instead,  paddle downstream a bit  to Shaw's Bridge park.  It is maybe a 75 yard carry from the water to the stone parking area (look for the restroom).  Google: South Creek Road, West Chester, Pennsylvania 19382 (Shaw's Bridge Park)

Delaware takeout  (long way from Mortonville)

The takeout we use is in just inside the Delaware border at Smith's Bridge, but that is a long way from Mortonville:
